Spen Valley CCC visit Heckmondwike Bowling Club- World Cakes

29 Jul

29th July, 2014

A holiday and Summer activitites have got in the way of up my write up of Spen Valley group’s most recent Clandestine Cake Club meeting which was 3 weeks ago on 3rd July but here it is at last.

Our theme of World Cakes seemed appropriate as many countries of the world were coming together for the World Cup and Le Tour de France and the bakers came up with some great ideas and as usual wonderful tasting cakes.

I tweeted earlier this year that I was going out to check on venues for future CCC meetings and Russ from Heckmondwike Bowling Club replied saying we would be very welcome to visit there.  Our numbers were lower than normal as some of our regular members were on holiday or had other things to do  but in the end there were 11 ladies and a husband  (who went out to watch the bowling)

The club doesn’t open every night and was opened specially for our visit. We had the large room to ourselves and the run of the kitchen, the bonus being that they wouldn’t let us wash up!  We left a donation in lieu of payment for tea and coffee and all said it was a great evening  and they would love to return there in due course.

I thought I should include too a picture of Karen’s ‘Brazil cake’ which had been made for the meeting but at the last minute she couldn’t join us.

We will not have a meeting in August, our next meeting being in early September and as our ‘Cake and Christmas craft’ meeting proved popular last year, we will have a similar meeting in October where non crafters can treat it as a regular cake club meeting should they not want to do the craft.
