My food & weight loss Week 4

20 Sep

Wednesday 14th September

This is week 4 of my diet

Up to 14th September I have so far I have lost8½lbs.

5½lbs the first week, & 1½lbs  on both the second and third weeks.

Starting weight was 12st 8¾lbs and this morning I weighed in at 12st 0¼lbs

Wednesday 14th September

Bacon, egg and tinned tomatoes today for lunch. One of my favourite meals. Would have been improved by having toast with it but I am steering clear of bread, in fact I am steering clear of carbohydrates in general.

Home made steak burger with roasted vegetables for tea tonight. A really colourful mix and with the added chilli flakes was a really tasty meal.

I had had a banana for breakfast and during the evening I had crisps (French fries) and 2 cans of lager.

Thursday 15th September

Got a call from Rich asking if I would be in the vicinity of Nandos Jct 27 during the day as he wanted me to collect a film for developing (his new hobby is collecting old cameras which use film) so I made it in my way to pick it up for him and had lunch in the restaurant. I chose the cous cous salad. Richard’s comment was “This is the most fattening thing on the menu”. Realising it was the dressing with all the olive oil etc which made it so calorific, I asked for the dressing to be served separately and after a taste of it (very nice) didn’t put any on.

My tasty Nandos cous cous and chick pea salad.

I love the olives & piri piri chicken.

7pm Thursday evening was the time for the meeting of the Clandestine Cake Club. This time it was in Blend cafe/bistro in Cleckheaton. Its  a lovely venue owned and run by friends of mine Sue & Chris who made us very welcome. It was a lovely social occasion and I met up with many people I chat to on Twitter, some who I had met at other CCC meetings and new ones too. Lovely to see them all. What a nice bunch of people.

My cake was the Streusal Cake with a ‘Blend’ (name of the cafe) of apples and raspberries picked from my garden, bottom right hand corner of this 2nd picture. Not all the cakes had arrived when I took these photos but you get the idea of what I had to contend with, temptation wise!

I didn’t try all the cakes but I did manage a sliver of quite a few of them and didn’t take any cake home from the leftovers. This cakey feast was my evening meal but when I got home I was craving savoury flavours so had a Dairylea dunker and a lager!

Not my best dieting day of late but I enjoyed it all!

Friday 16th September

8am Got my diet head on again today, for how long I don’t know. Perhaps I’ll have a banana to start the day.

1.30pm Lunch is left over roasted veg, stir fried with bean sprouts and served with a home made burger.

5.30pm Jacket potato with almost fat-free cottage cheese for tea.  Then off to get ready to go out again. Twice in two nights. This time to Batley Town Hall to see Carlinghow Players perform 42nd Street.

11pm Great show! Feeling peckish now. Crisps and a handful of mixed nuts and sun flower seeds me thinks and not forgetting a cheeky lager!

Saturday 17th September

8.30am I have a fridge full of salad which has been neglected. I will probably inspect it later and see if its still fit to eat.

12 noon Eating a huge salad today with beetroot and bean sprouts and half a cold jacket potatobefore a trip to Meadowhall, Sheffield.

5.30 Decided to make some gingerbread teddy bears with my new acquisitions from Poundland Meadowhall, three lovely cutters for the princely sum on £1. I had the oven on to roast some vegetables for tea so it made sense to use the other shelf and bake these at the same time.

I will take most of them to the Mum n tots group when I go there with Evie on Monday morning but I did test some of the tiny bears and they were great.

I didn’t fancy the roasted veg when it was ready. Instead I had a handful of mixed nuts with a couple of glasses of Chardonnay Pinot Grigiot (no lager today).

Later in the evening I had some of the cold roast veg on a couple of crispbreads and I will zap the rest of the veg in the microwave at lunchtime on Sunday.

Consumed lots of the wrong things this week I know. Probably this is about the time in a diet when people give up so I think if my weight stays the same this week I will be quite happy.

Joining friends in their caravan in Bridlington on Tuesday evening and staying a few nights, so will be harder when I am not the preparer of my food to keep on track. Also the wine is usually flowing well. It will be a lovely social break but no good for the diet!

Sunday 18th September

Lunch was 2 Ryvitas with some of the left over roasted veg and then I went for coffee at Helen’s to ‘look at’ a beautiful sponge cake she had made. I was offered a piece but turned it down in favour of a glass of pink M&S wine with my dinner (at Helen’s) of roast lamb and lots of veg.

I had half a bottle of white wine sitting in my fridge so I finished it off on my return home and watched my recording of Xfactor!!

Monday 19th September

I shared a banana with Evie before going to Mums n tots where I was extremely good and turned down the usual slices of toast. I did eat 2 of the tiny gingerbread teddy bears though as I handed them round.

Salad again for lunch today with some slices of bread-crumbed ham followed by another gingerbread teddy.

Helen is coming for tea again tonight when she picks Evie up and I have fish on the menu. It is Pouting today. Never had any before but thought I would give it a try as it is a more sustainable variety than the usual Haddock or Cod. Lots of veg to prepare before she arrives.

Tuesday 20th September

Getting weighed a day early this week as I will be away from my bathroom scales in Bridlington in the morning. Fingers crossed that my weight has gone down and not up!

Here it is!  Only ¼lb lost.

Weight today 20th September      12st 0 lb

Weight loss this week.    ¼lb

Weight on Wednesday, 14th September  12st 1¾lbs

Since 24th August, total weight loss    8¾lb

I will return with another blog and report on any changes in my weight in a month but I am not expecting great things as I am going to Bridlington late afternoon where my friends will have lots of good food and wine to share with me and its my birthday in 2 weeks time which I will be celebrating (although I am certainly not happy about becoming yet another year older).

Eating sensibly and not much alcohol is the answer I know. Back to it after my mini holiday on the East Coast.

My food & weight loss Week 3

14 Sep

Wednesday 7th September

This is week 3 of my diet

So far I have lost 7lbs.

5½lbs the first week and 1½lbs  the second week.

Starting weight was 12st 8¾lbs and this morning I weighed in at 12st 1¾lbs

It wasn’t a good start to the diet week today. My Mother-in-law’s sister Anne who is 82, came from Scarborough by train for the day, to shop, chat and eat with me which I enjoyed but as I am easily led astray was not good for the diet.

“What have you done to your hair?” my 82yr old Aunt asked “I don’t like it” I had grown out the blonde I’ve always been and gone grey. Anne hadn’t seen me for a while so the change was really noticeable to her. “You need to go blonde again!” My Mum who I lost in 1992, would have been 85 now, and I know she would have said the same thing. Thinking about it…

We started the day at Ikea for the 99p breakfast. It was lovely. The deep fried hash brown was lovely too and NOT at all diet friendly.

We shopped and at 2pm visited The Mill in Batley. Anne needed something to eat and ordered a splendid prawn sandwich which she decided was too big for her and asked if I would like half of it. Not being one to waste food, what was I to do?  Of course I ate it. Enjoyed it. Now I am counting the cost of eating it.

Bread which I love, is not on my diet!

At least at tea time I was home alone and threw together a great salad with ham. This was me on my best diet behaviour.

Now I have let myself go again. I am writing this eating a bag of crisps (French Fries) and drinking a can of Carling!

Probably time to go to bed and start off again in mean mode in the morning!

Thursday 8th September

9.00am Must think diet today.

Weetabix has gone down well and I have enjoyed my 2 early morning cups of coffee.

Now planning the day’s meals.

For one meal today, I must have oven roasted vegetables  and for the other I must have a salad as I have a very full fridge.

2:30pm  OK . Salad eaten for lunch with half of a small can of tuna.

Photo of roasted vegetables ready to cook while a cake was in the oven.

Pitfall time. Made a cake and had to test it so have eaten a slice with a cup of coffee.  Oh dear! This was another test cake for 15th September to take to the Clandestine cake club. I had better take the rest of this cake for Helen and Rod and Evie to eat up.

5:30pm Jacket potato will go nicely with the roasted vegetables and fill me up for the day.

Monday 12th September

On Friday I ate my meals at home and had a reasonable good dieting day. I looked after Evie so Helen & Rod could have a day out and we had bacon, scrambled egg and tinned tomatoes for lunch. It was tasty and Evie enjoyed it too.

Although I gave Evie pizza for tea I did not have any and waited until I deposited Evie back home at 7 and ate jacket potato and roasted vegetables at 8pm.

Both Saturday and Sunday I ate my evening meal at Helen’s. Curry with rice on Saturday and roast pork and vegetables on Sunday but I had had my regulation salad for lunch on both days as I also have today, Monday. I did have a glass of lovely wine from M&S with my roast dinner. During the evening, I had my usual treats of lager and also had a bag of crisps (French fries again).

For tea tonight (Monday) I am cooking for Helen arriving from school at 5.30 and we are having smoked haddock and steamed green beans, carrots and brocolli with jacket potato and parsley sauce for Helen and Evie but I will have my fish and veg without the potato or sauce.

Tuesday 13th September

Another Ikea breakfast today. One reason is that its an ideal meeting place for my friend Kath and me to take our grandchildren also its cheap and the kids can then go in the play area for a while.  It whiles away the morning nicely. Its also just the right distance as we drive  home, for Evie to fall asleep as we travel and give me a break for an hour or so when we get back.

Another salad for tea today, this time with tuna.

I keep having a sneaky look at my weight on a morning and so far its not looking too good.  Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s ‘weigh in’.

Wednesday 14th September

Weight today         12st 0¼ lb                               Weight loss this week.    1½lbs

Weight on Wednesday, 7th September  12st 1¾lbs

Since 24th August, total weight loss    8½lb

It would have be great this week if  I could have gone down to 11st something but realise that because I have had lots of ‘treats’ its not surprising that I haven’t lost more than I have.

Hey ho! at least the weight has gone down and not up.

Tomorrow night I have a meeting of the Clandestine Cake Club to attend in Cleckheaton which I am looking forward to. Its lovely meeting old friends and new friends who have an interest in baking and eating cake. I like the cake but its the social gathering I really like. No doubt my diet will have to go to pot for the evening (no tea before I go) but after eating lots of lovely cake I will need to lower my intake of ‘evening treats’ for the coming week!

Slowly but surely the diet is working. Again, onward……    The only way is down!!

My food & weight loss Week 2

7 Sep

Monday 5th September

Start weight for the week  12st 3¼lbs on 30th August

For this my second week of dieting, I have continued eating similar meals to ‘week 1’.

I have had many salads and lots of steamed vegetables served with protein.

Again I made a big pot of stewed veg which lasted me for a couple of meals. There was actually some left but I decided I had had enough of it.

One day I did have half a jacket potato with baked beans for lunch, another day I had a fish finger sandwich in one slice of butter-less toast with a squeeze of lemon juice. This was really tasty.

On Friday, Helen, Evie & I had a day out in York and we had lunch in the Slug & Lettuce overlooking the River. I had chilli & boiled rice with a few tortilla chips and because we were on holiday (and on the train) had a couple of glasses of lager with the meal.

A beautiful curry on Saturday night, made by Helen, was served to me with (3 points Weight Watchers I was informed by H) boiled rice.

Sunday roast (at Helen’s again) was beautiful tender lamb with broccoli and carrots and I did actually have a ‘taste’ of the roast potatoes and some garlic gravy

I am going to a meeting of the Clandestine Cake Club on the 15th September, so on Sunday afternoon I decided to practice the savoury cake I was thinking of making for it. I had a slice before the cake had gone cold (naughty!) but took the most of it to Helen’s for the family to try. (Evie gave it the thumbs up!)

In the end I decided that I will make a different cake for the CCC but that is by the way!

Monday morning, Evie and I, ate a late breakfast in Ikea with a friend and her 18month old grandson. The hash brown was deep fried and probably very high calorie but this meal counted as lunch and apart from a small piece of the savoury cake in the afternoon, had nothing else till my evening meal which was chicken breast with broccoli, carrots and cabbage with a small amount of gravy.

Tuesday 6th September

My luxury each day was having a lager on an evening and on two afternoons when I gave Evie a Cornetto, I had one too!! On a couple of evenings, I had a bag of French Fries (85cal per pack)

I have mentioned the extras I have had this week, so you see I have not been as strict as on week 1.

If I haven’t lost much weight this week I will have to reconsider having these extras when I plan the food for ‘week 3’

Salad I think for lunch today perhaps with a hard boiled egg and tonight it will be leftovers from last night(chicken and vegetables)

In the end I added tinned tomatoes and chilli flakes to the chicken and leftover vetetables and it was really tasty.

I am hoping when I get weighed in the morning I have lost at least another couple of pounds and then I will have lost over ½ stone. Fingers crossed….

Wednesday 7th September

Weight today         12st 1¾ lb                                    Weight loss this week.    1½lbs

Weight on Wednesday, 30th August  12st 3¼lbs      Total weight loss          7lb

I am very pleased with that!!     Half a stone off is a landmark!

Now on to ‘week 3’
